Dr. Mario 64 Ships REDMOND, Wash., April 9, 2001 - From Myrtle Beach to Monterey, gamers across the country are coming down with puzzle fever following Nintendo's release of Dr. Mario 64. The primary symptom is a sudden and persistent itch to spend time playing the all-new Nintendo® 64 version of one of the most popular puzzle games in history. The game allows up to four players to pit their pill-placing and virus-vanquishing Dr. Mario skills against each other for the first time. Available for a suggested retail price of $29.95, Dr. Mario 64 will be familiar to Nintendo fans from previous house calls on the Super Nintendo® and Game Boy® platforms. "We administered a hefty amount of updated features and injected a number of new options, most notably the addition of a four-player mode, that will complement the initial dose of euphoric nostalgia gamers will no doubt experience when they play Dr. Mario 64," says Peter Main, Nintendo's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "Dr. Mario 64 is the perfect prescription for all Nintendo 64 owners." The familiar fast and furious gameplay makes Dr. Mario 64 fever as easy to catch as the common cold. Players rotate falling "megavitamin capsule" puzzle pieces as they work to line up colors to eliminate viruses and clear their pill bottle. Time is of the essence - viruses must be cleared fast before the bottle fills up and the pills spill over the top. Nintendo's popular Dr. Mario, along with his cunning rival Wario, star in six different gameplay modes, including "Multiplayer" which gives one to four players a chance to battle it out against each other. Friends can also team up and go two-on-two in "Team Battle." "Story Mode" is the one-player procedure that allows gamers to unlock hidden characters. Variations on the one-player mode include "Score Attack," "Marathon" and "Flash." Nintendo Co., Ltd. of Kyoto, Japan is the acknowledged worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment. To date Nintendo has sold more than one billion video games worldwide, has created such industry icons as MarioTM and Donkey Kong® and launched franchises like The Legend of Zelda® and PokémonTM . Nintendo manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home video game systems, including the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy - the world's best-selling video game system. As a wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., based in Redmond, Wash., serves as headquarters for Nintendo's operations in North America.
